Since 1992, Hutchinson Police Services has sponsored the annual “Scott Schwartz Senior Fishing Outing.” Lt. Schwartz coordinated this event for many years and the event took on his name when he retired. Lt. Schwartz continues to join senior citizens each year on the fishing outing.
The event takes place in early June and is open to any interested seniors citizens in the community. Local law enforcement personnel and other volunteers in the community donate boats, equipment, and time to this worthy cause which provides an enjoyable day of fishing to people who may not have many opportunities to spend a day out on the lake.
The “fishermen” are taken to area lakes to get their fill of fishing and returned to Hutchinson for an afternoon lunch provided by Hutchinson Police Services and made possible with donations from area businesses and department employees. Last year Hutchinson Police Services was able to provide 45 senior citizens with an enjoyable fishing outing and looks forward to the next outing in June.
