In December of 2008, Hutchinson Police Services teamed up with Walmart, Pepsi, McLeod County Social Services and other McLeod County Emergency Service agencies in the first Shop With A Cop day in Hutchinson. Twenty children from McLeod County were paired with police, fire, or ambulance personnel to shop for holiday gifts for themselves or for their family. The children were given money to spend on whatever they wanted to purchase
